South Carolina BOR Celebration
Bill of Rights Day To Be Celebrated in South Carolina
On December 15, 1791, the Bill of Rights was ratified and has since protected American citizens for 209 years. The Bill of Rights remains a beacon to Freedom loving people worldwide. Currently twenty-two states are celebrating the Bill of Rights on December 15. A Bipartisan coalition of South Carolinians is gathering on the steps of the Capitol in Columbia December 15, 2000, at Eleven O'clock AM to celebrate the Bill of Rights. We hope to bring hundreds of South Carolinians into this first celebration of the Bill of Rights in our state. Whether as individuals we are on the political Left or Right, whether we care passionately for one particular right or another, we should come together to celebrate our core values. Our civic core values lie in the Bill of Rights.
At this time, four South Carolina cities has passed resolutions honoring Bill of Rights Day. By this time next year, we hope to have 100 cities! In addition, the South Carolina Bill of Rights Celebration Committee, has sponsored a essay contest: "What the Bill of Rights Means To Me", for all 7th and 8th grade students. The winners will be present in Columbia, to receive their awards.
We invite anyone who can possibly make it to Columbia, to join us in honoring the Constitution and the Bill of Rights on December 15th.
