With this week's final passage of the Real ID Act, the United States is
soon to have national ID. This is catastrophic news for everyone who values
freedom, and as we described yesterday it's
a special disaster for gun owners.

P.S. In yesterday's alert we stated that Montana had passed a bill refusing to turn its drivers licenses into federally controlled national ID cards. This was an error. We heard from Montana state representative Diane Rice, sponsor of HB 304, the bill that would have prevented state licensing officials from implementing Real ID without legislative action. She reported that her bill did not become law. We've corrected the online copy of the alert and we thank Ms. Rice both for the correction and for her efforts.
