One of the often overlooked aspects of the Bill of Rights is that it does not itself confer special rights -- those are unalienable natural rights -- the BoR serving to protect those rights by applying restrictions and restraints on those who would see those rights trampled.
Robert Greenslade has written a piece on this aspect of the BoR and goes into considerable detail to make his point. The article is perhaps something that should be shown to those who think our rights only come from Government - wrong! They are ours irrespective of those in power.
