RESPONSES TO A PREVIOUS ALERT

On Aug 24, 2004, we sent out an alert regarding a gentleman's first-hand experience with the Holocaust. A few of our readers had a different opinion on the matter. Below are their responses:

Two items in Mr. Neuhaus's letter sounded a sour note. First of all, who are those "bearded men" that re being rounded up? Are they Lubavitchers? Other Hasidim?
There are arrests of people with such names as Abdul, Mohammed, etc. As I am not a member of the ACLU, I am not too upset about that aliens, often here illegally, with expired student visas and so on, who want to use our Bill of Rights to destroy us, are taken into custody.
The second item in Mr. Nauhaus's letter that sounds off key is his Uncle Zsiga who tried to enlist in the Hungarian army during WWII. Wasn't Hungary a junior partner of Germany in that war? What Jew in his right mind would want to enlist in an army on the side of Nazi Germany?
As to New York's propensity to keep its citizens unarmed, I am well aware of that. Those outside the law are also, and have no hesitation to stay armed to carry on their enterprises.
That law enforcement officers look like Storm Troopers does not make them the same as SS. Not that I am completely pro-police. In the past weeks, I have been stopped by law enforcement for not having a front license plate mounted on the vehicle and asked if I would allow the vehicle to be searched. They were looking for weapons.
On the other hand, I have found law enforcement officers to be understanding of a citizen's desire to be armed. A stolen handgun was returned to me by law enforcement; they informed me of its recovery by letter.

Dear Mr Neuhaus,
Perhaps you would be happier if we just stood by and did nothing to try and stop terrorism? Will that make us safer? And whom or what should we trust to help in thwarting those who are bent on our destruction, the kind of destruction you saw with your own eyes? You really feel that the Patriot Act is the problem here? Please detail answers and solutions, and don't attack everyone and everything around you.
