Independence Day, July 4th.

This July 4th, may we all remember that today is not just a day off from work for barbecues; it is rather a celebration of Freedom and Liberty.

American exceptionalism has provided us with freedoms unparalleled in the history of the world, among them:

• the freedom of conscience to think and believe what we want;
• the freedom of expression to speak our minds;
• the freedom to own firearms to protect our lives and the lives of those we love.

This Independence Day, as we are awed by the beauty of the fireworks, may we remember that these Freedoms are not granted by government but rather pre-exist government, that we must fight vigorously against the tendency of government to infringe on our freedom, and that if we lose these freedoms, we have no one to blame but ourselves.

On the subject of freedoms, may we suggest you read "An Open letter to Our fathers and Grandfathers" - one of the late Aaron Zelman's masterpieces, which is appropriate for all our commemorative days concerning freedom and liberty.

May G-d protect the valiant soldiers of the Armed Forces of the United States of America who risk their lives to preserve our Freedom and Liberty. May G-d protect us from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. And may G-d bless America.

Imagine what Aaron would have added to this article today with Fast and Furious!
