I know this is Tisha B'Av, and I'm so glad to have already had a chance to meet you via the press release a few days ago. I would hate for the first time we meet to have been on Tisha B'Av; there have been so many sorrows on this day!

So what does this have to do with Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership, you may ask? Well, I'll tell you, of course.

For centuries civilizations have posted watchmen on the wall – sentinels, if you will. The Tanach/The Bible is very clear about their responsibility. In Ezekiel 33:6 we read, "But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand."

I doubt there are many in our group who do not see pure evil is heading our way. And while it appears to be coming from more than one direction, I think all the tentacles come from the head of a federal government that has grown larger than the founding fathers ever intended. This is why the founders created a small government - to prevent what we are seeing now.

So what can be done about it?

For 25 years now JPFO members have been the watchmen on the wall. That's right; we are celebrating our 25th anniversary! In the last 10 months alone we have doubled our membership, and we have seen a double-digit increase in the number of women members! I believe we all have a duty to warn others and help them to see the threats for themselves. Those who can hear the watchman can take action.

But what about the people who don't recognize the watchman's signal?

Sometimes the pen is mightier than the sword, and JPFO is an excellent sword to put in your scabbard. Hopefully persuasion by our informed membership will affect changes that ensure our liberty. Fred, of The Appleseed project explains it very well:

Before you get to the 'hard crisis' - that point where they are in sight and coming to get you, and your rifle is the only answer -there is the 'soft crisis', where words, votes, organizing, and talking and letter writing make the difference. Our choices are always clear: Fight now, fight later, or don't fight at all, and give up the freedom and tradition that our ancestors won for us.

In the near future we will be publishing the 25th Anniversary edition of The Bill of Rights Sentinel. This wonderful publication is packed full with articles that are both timely and timeless. I was glancing at some of the topics in the 2001 copy, and "Is Your Doctor a Spy?" caught my eye, as did "Do Jewish Leaders Want Us All To Be Victims?" and the 2004 essay "Stroke of a Pen –The End of Your Gun Rights." The Sentinel is a publication you will want to read cover to cover to inform yourself and to give yourself the intellectual "ammunition" to engage others and spread information and freedom.

JPFO has an incredible team of writers, like the legendary Claire Wolfe, and our senior editorialist L. Neil Smith who also collaborated with Aaron on The Mitzvah. David Codrea, who with Sipsey Street Irregular Mike Vanderbough, fought tirelessly to bring "Operation Gunwalker" to the public's attention. Nicki Kenyon writes hard-hitting pieces in addition to being the driving force behind JPFO's presence on FaceBook and Twitter, which is helping reach the younger generation. (You do follow us on Twitter and have "liked" us on FaceBook, right?) Writer Kurt Hofmann can dismantle a gun grabber's arguments with ease before his second cup of coffee.

Have you ever done an Internet search for "Bill of Rights Sentinel JPFO?" There are scores of hits. You will find it quoted on gun rights forums, industry gun sites and by bloggers. The Bill of Rights Sentinel makes clear "All the Bill of Rights for All Citizens." You can help someone recalibrate their freedom meter by disseminating this critical information.

Do you want to do more than buy copies and hand them out? For $30 your name, or the name in honor of a loved one, can be in print as a contributor along with a comment of up to 15 words. Now that is a deal!

We keep hearing "It's for the children" from the anti-freedom, anti-gun crowd. Well, how about doing something to help regain freedom and liberty to help your children and grandchildren grow up in a free country? Be part of history, help the legacy of future generations be liberty. Now that really is "for the children." I think I'm going to donate in Aaron Zelman's name... maybe my Dad's too.

JPFO is the most aggressive, fearless civil rights organization in the Second Amendment community. You do not have to be Jewish to join; you do not have to be Jewish to fight for freedom; you just have to be a watchman. We stand alongside any who will join us in the battle. You just need to have the yearning for freedom that G-d put into each of us.

I'm feeling very blessed. There is no other group I would want to work with as much as I want to work with JPFO. The organization has honesty, integrity and grit. Whether it's good news or bad, you will know it here first. Whether it's anti-gunner lies or false friends, you will find out from JPFO – honestly, without pulling punches.

I am also very glad that joining me on the JPFO team is a gentleman with whom I've had the privilege of working over the last 10 years: Brad Alpert, who has joined JPFO as Operations Director. There just couldn't be anyone more perfect.
