No comparison is necessarily totally definitive but this may at least clear up some of the common misconceptions. Predictably, the AK and its variants is by far among the most prevalent rifle found in terrorist organizations and is produced from many sources, legitimate and illegitimate. The 7.62x39 AK round is commonly sourced from Eastern Block regions and often steel cased. The AR round is the NATO designated 5.56x45.
