We feature an article by Jack Eldon Jackson , who says "The article (provocative to some) is already causing a rather heated debate. I think many of your readers would appreciate the balanced perspective it brings to the subject." He details some history and then looks at open carry with regard to what might considered sensible and what might not.

The problem essentially is seen as one of balance and a need for compromise, while struggling to reinforce and maintain Second Amendment rights. His main chosen example is concerned with the recent change of policy made by the Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, who, while not literally banning guns in his coffee shops, is requesting folks to no longer bring firearms into the business. This probably is aimed mostly at high profile open carry, as a CCW would almost certainly go unnoticed.

Jack's prime point made is to do with a matter of degree -- the difference perhaps between subtle wearing of a gun neatly holstered in full view, compared with the extremes of groups festooned with shotguns and rifles slung over the shoulder. We have to accept that some people are simply uncomfortable around weapons and seeing a display in an extreme 'in-your-face' manner is not necessarily helping the cause some would opine.

There are probably two camps on this subject but the article tries to demonstrate the need for a sensible balance and cool heads -->

Thought for the day --
We are told NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics. BUT ...
We are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.
